There is some cognitive dissonance going on, despite these being hot hatches, all of the ones I mention can go from 0 to 100 in less than 5 seconds. they could all trouble much more powerful cars.

I’ve wanted a 1-series 5-door hatch since the late 90s. I’m still bitter than BMW only brought us the coupe, even amid a big surge in hatchback popularity.

its FWD. sure people want to bash FWD but it should be left to the econoboxes, not “ The Ultimate Driving Ma chine” . My Focus is FWD and has pathetic hp and even it can sometimes get wheel spin. 300 hp with FWD just seems like a waste. you will never get the power down. Now the WRX with AWD was great. The BMW should have AWD (or RWD)

BMW hasn’t been “The Ultimate Driving Machine” in quite some time. The S3 and Golf R are both the “fake/fwd biased ” AWD, and are good but have very little feel overall particularly in the steering department. I’m guessing this will be about the same.

I’m a fan of the Merc, simple and clean.

The BMW just has a bunch of lines that don’t do anything. IMHO they’re turning into the German Chevy. Lots of styling, not much design.

This is basically a de-crossover-fied X2 M35i, which is a good thing. It’s got the front LSD like that car, which is also a good thing. It would quite possibly my perfect car if not for BMW’s infuriating lack of Android Auto and charging a subscription for CarPlay.

But it’s more of a competitor for the A35 and S3, not the A45. That’s another step up in power and price.

Unless this were leaps and bounds better in every way than the A35, I’d pick the A35 all day every day just for the damn Android Auto.

Oh, and we’re not getting this in the US, we have to wait for the M235i GC.

Oof dude. If you’re gonna magazine bench race that hard over 3 HP at least be right. 2018 E63S4S puts out 603HP and Ft torque and a 2018 RS6 Avant Performance is 590 something horses and 557 ft of torque. I’ve personally seen an E63 Wagon totally  stock tires one pull off a 2.8 0-60s lol. I’ve also seen a cold E63S sedan pull of a 3.3 on a 40 degree day random launch lol. That engine is insanely fast

As Clarkson said, there isn’t a better engine out there than the biturbo V8 from AMG right now.

As for better all around you are absolutely crazy. The benz comes with a ten times better and less busy interior, much more comfy massaging seats, and a better balanced chassis.

Looks are subjective, but the E63 Wagon smacks the Rs6 around in every other way and it can do it while hauling two kids in the trunk too lol.

Im personally not even a drag racing guy, I like taking corners and cars that can handle themselves well which is why I usually dislike Audis. However, you wanted to bring up power so... what good is that power if you’re still seeing the Benz’s tailights in a drag race?

Fair enough. Corners are more fun in most cases. 

If I am honest I still prefer the Audi, though if I was spending my own money it would be fore the C6 generation anyway.

I’m OK with hot hatches but if we’re talking 60k USD I’d rather just go with a lightly-used new-ish car. I see plenty of Macans, Cayman/Boxsters, and older 911s can be had at that cost.

Hot hatches should be affordable fun, I think their existence is largely pointless when they become this expensive. The Golf R is already what I consider the ceiling on what’s a sensible price to pay for a hot hatch.

I’d be much more excited if Hyundai said the i30N was coming to North America.

I really don’t expect the House Democrats are going to be in any particular hurry to do anything for Trump. Maybe there will be enough pressure, but Trump has nothing to get in their good graces, and I think they know that just letting Trump bully them into passing things would work out poorly for them.

Oh cool, I hadn’t seen about the JCW yet but I like it. Either way, BMW & Mini need to get on the Android Auto bandwagon before I mess with another car from them.

A45 isn’t official yet but the volume of rumors about it (and other _ _A45 variants) are frequent enough that I’m pretty confident it’ll happen.
